In order to raise awareness and to honor the memory of babies who have died in our community a ceremony took place on Wednesday, September 7, to dedicate the second annual Pinwheel Memory Garden at Lee Memorial Health System Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. The ceremony and garden are located near the Children’s Memorial Garden on the hospital grounds.

More than 845 pinwheels were planted to represent the number of babies who died before their first birthday, or were stillborn over the last five years in Southwest Florida. Veteran newscaster, Patrick Comer of ABC 7, was on hand to conduct the ceremony. Dr. William Liu, MD, and Kathy Bridge Liles from the Children’s Hospital were special guest speakers. Pinwheel Memory Gardens are also on display in Naples September 21-23, LaBelle and Clewiston September 14-16.
